Project Title:

Commercial Forestry Plantation – Green Canopy Initiative

Project Location: Village Chak 25, Tehsil & District Sheikhupura, Punjab, Pakistan Project Size: Total Area: 100 Canals (Approx. 12.5 Acres) Plantation Details:

  • Total Number of Plants: 50,000
  • Plant Varieties:
    • Sufaida (Eucalyptus camaldulensis): 30,000
    • Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo): 10,000
    • Kikar (Acacia nilotica): 5,000
    • Mulberry (Morus alba): 5,000

Project Objectives:

  • To develop a sustainable source of commercial timber and fuel wood.
  • To improve local biodiversity and soil fertility.
  • To provide shelter belts and windbreaks to protect nearby farmland.
  • To support carbon sequestration and contribute to climate action goals.

Project Timeline:

  • Land Preparation: Feb 2023 – March 2023
  • Planting Season: March 2023 – May 2023
  • Ongoing Maintenance: Weed control, irrigation, and pest management conducted throughout the year.

Irrigation Method:

  • Drip and flood irrigation using tube well and canal water sources.

Employment & Community Impact:

  • Direct Jobs Created: 20 daily wage laborers employed during plantation season.
  • Ongoing Maintenance Staff: 5 permanent caretakers.
  • Community Engagement: Local community engaged for watch & ward. Priority given to nearby villages for labor supply.

Survival Rate:

  • Current Plant Survival Rate: 85% (monitored quarterly)
  • Replacement planting conducted during monsoon season.

Sustainability Practices:

  • Organic fertilization with farmyard manure.
  • Integrated pest management to reduce chemical use.
  • Use of native species to promote local ecology.

Expected Yield:

  • First Harvest: Partial thinning in 5-7 years for fuelwood and poles.
  • Full Harvest: Commercial timber production in 10-12 years.
